MAK Plastics Commissions New High-Capacity Recycling Extruder with Polyco Support

MAK PLASTICS is proud to announce the successful commissioning of its state-of-the-art high-capacity recycling extruder in New Germany, KwaZulu Natal. An achievement that marks a significant milestone for South Africa’s recycling sector.

This expansion was made possible through Polyco’s investment and partnership support, which enabled the installation of the advanced extruder and supporting infrastructure.

With the new machinery in place, MAK Plastics has doubled its processing capacity to 400 tonnes per month, strengthening local recycling infrastructure, creating jobs, and accelerating the province’s shift towards a circular economy.

The official commissioning, held on Tuesday, 7 October 2025, was attended by Polyco’s leadership team, senior government representatives, and key industry stakeholders.

This next chapter represents a remarkable step forward for MAK Plastics, which has grown into a team of 40 permanent employees and 18 interns from the Sizwe Training Centre. Together, they are diverting greater volumes of plastic waste from landfills, producing high-quality recycled pellets for manufacturers, and reducing reliance on virgin plastics, making a tangible contribution to South Africa’s circular economy.

The expansion not only enhances KwaZulu-Natal’s recycling capacity but also strengthens South Africa’s broader plastics value chain. With Polyco’s backing, MAK Plastics is positioned to play a leading role in regional plastic waste management and the advancement of a more sustainable circular economy.
